Driven, innovative and compassionate, M.J. Black serves as Chief Resources Director for Axis for Autism. With extensive expertise in hiring, operations and resource management, she’s responsible for recruiting and retaining key employees, assuring satisfaction among patient families and identifying and leveraging resources that expand the reach and impact of the company.
Among her career highlights, M.J. worked as a healthcare hiring consultant for 15 years, honing her abilities to screen candidates, understand their values and hire the right people. As the first female broker at Merrill Lynch in South Bend, IN, she knocked on the glass ceiling while also balancing the demands of single motherhood. This work inspired her to establish her own business, where she empowered single mothers to gain financial independence. Through mentoring and support, M.J. assisted these women in career development, education and job placement to ensure they could provide for their families.
Beyond her extensive business qualifications, M.J. is known for her soft skills, which strengthen her ability to lead teams, advocate for patient families, support other staff members and enhance every aspect of Axis for Autism’s operations. These skills, combined with her creative approach to addressing business challenges, have also earned her the nickname “Chief Problem Solver.”
M.J. is an alumna of Indiana University at South Bend, holding a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Master of Science in counseling psychology. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with her family.
